Diversity and LGBTQ+

At NDAS, we know that domestic abuse does not discriminate against gender identity, race or sexuality. Therefore it is important to us that people from diverse groups and the LGBTQIA2S+ community know that we are dedicated to supporting them.

Specialist Refuge Provision

Imagine trying to flee from abuse when you don’t speak any English, or if you don’t have the legal right to basic financial support.

We have staff who are specially trained to support female victim/survivors with these additional “diverse” needs.

Diversity Lead Support

Our Diversity Lead is also a Domestic Abuse Specialist (DAS). She is trained to be your advocate  and can provide information about the Migrant Victims of Domestic Abuse Concession (MVDAC)/ Destitute Domestic Violence Concession (DDVC). Divya is also trained in delivering the Tackling Abuse and Cultural Trauma (TACT) programme

OUR SERVICES

LGBTQ+

NDAS is an inclusive organisation, offering support for all victim/survivors of domestic abuse. We will always be respectful of gender identity and use appropriate language.

We have specialist refuges that support Non-Binary and Trans Gender people.

Group Work

Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit is a 12-week Plan to Help People Thrive After Domestic Abuse.

This group will incorporate diverse cultural traditions and practices and is aimed at women with the following backgrounds – Caribbean, African, South Asian and Mixed Heritage.

Have you left an abusive relationship?
Are you still carrying guilt?
Would you like to understand, challenge and remove the voice of the perpetrator?
Do you find dealing with new people in your life something to be scared about?
Do you still think what happened to you was your fault?
If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to the above questions you are not alone.
The toolkit was written by Sue Penna founder of Rockpool.
We run this group in collaboration with Creating Equalz.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY...

“It (groupwork) gave me an insight, when it comes to abuse, as an individual I blamed myself, however, with the support I received I know understand that it is not my fault. The perpetrator needs to take responsibility for their behaviour.”

“I now have a positive attitude about myself and what the future hold, excited.”

“Uplifting. sad to see others in this position, but it’s somewhat comforting that I’m not alone. Everyone in the group has been supportive. The course itself has been well thought out and really relevant and has given me a solid foundation to build upon. Now it had ended, I am a bit at sea.”

“This course has been brilliant; I didn’t think it would have helped as much as it did. I am very grateful.”
